6/18/08 (6w) - Have been working with clicker training all week, asking for sits, even guiding the puppy into a sit and click with patting as a reward.  They are already sitting for attention, sitting for their food bowl, and sitting with eye contact!  Now we add leash training - Fishback's Lead Dog Testing

Leader Test, Day1 -- Carry puppy out of puppy kennel, away from littermates and mom, and out the maingate.  Set the puppy down 10 feet out and pet, be happy, pet and rub puppy until they stand up and look around, then walk slowly away, talking to puppy, encouraging as needed.  Walk down driveway towards the lower dogyard where Dancer, Naula, and Cali come to the fence and WOO!  Turn left and walk into lower grassy yard 10 feet, then reverse.

6/11/08 (5w) - Pups have discovered PLAY and RUNNING and WRESTLING.  It's hard to take pictures of blurs of motion.  They know the camera is going to point at them and flash and then they will get told they are GOOD PUPPIES, so now they are grabbing the camera and slobbering on it -- need to learn a new technique for taking puppy pictures.  Every day at 1pm they are crated in the cool basement as a group, but separate from their mom, they come out of the crate at 8pm -- and so far there are NO messes in the crate.  They are being free-fed Eukanuba Large Breed Puppy and all the water they want,  when not crated.  F1 has really come out of her caution at full throttle, F3 still hangs back and watches at first, but warms up quickly.  The rest of them are outgoing and curious and boldly going where no puppy has gone before -- unless there is a noise, and then they scurry for safety as any good puppy will do. They are now outside in a 10x10 cedar box on the north side of the house, protected.  They mess in one corner and eagerly anticipate attention -- because attention means people and people means hems and shoes to chew on.  <g>

5/20/08 (2w) - Pups are chunky, stout, solid little boulders.  They have discovered their voices, yodeling, chortling, wooing, singing "glory-glory" like a chorus of church mice, grunting, mooing, and rolling their puppy Rs.  Their eyes are opening, and it's time for their first deworming and toenail clipping.  I've had to link up 2 crates and clip them together because these six puppies are taking up as much crawling, lounging, and sprawling space as Sunny's first litter of 10.  She hangs in the auxillary crate until she wants to feed or clean -- and the pups chat and debate and fillibuster until she comes back and feeds them and cleans them.  2w pupdate pictures are posted.

5/8/08 - pups are growing, already growing strong and active,  So far, colors look like this:

F1 gray & white female, masked -- will probably fade to open-faced

will look a lot like Sunny's color as an adult

F2 gray & white female, masked

another Sunny colored puppy

F3 gray sable & white female, goggles, faint half bar

Yogi's color

F4 gray sable & white female, faint mask

Yogi's color

F5 seal sable & white female, masked, split bar, snippet

Maestro, Sunny's littermate is a light seal sable because he inherited the seal gene from Singer and the sable gene through Charles from Blackfoot Indi.  This puppy appears to have inherited the seal gene from Singer and the brilliant sable gene from Kip, but she is a darker seal than Maestro or Kip.

M1 seal & white male, full mask, snippet

Singer's color

5/7/08 - Day 64, Yogi & Sunny delivered today a litter of 6 healthy puppies.

2 gray & white GIRLS

2 sable & white GIRLS

1 black & white GIRL

1 black & white boy

All fat and sassy and nearly 2lbs each -- which is HUGE for puppies. Sunny delivered with no problems and gobbled down her cheesy scrambled eggs as well. Gotta love a gal with a healthy appetite.  And yes, I am heaving a big sign of relief, not only for the uneventful delivery, but also for the gift of GIRLS.  Pics soon.
