Working Weight Pull Dog
WTD, WLD, WWPD,
& WPD
Wayeh has just started dog weight
pulling with the International Weight Pull Association (IWPA) -- and having
loads of fun. We bought our weightpull harnesses from Black
Ice, wrapped a length of chain around a tire, hooked the leash between the
tire and the harness, and started practicing. When the dogs got good with
the drag weight, we added a dish saucer on top and a bag of dogfood to increase
weight and drag. The hard part of weight pulling is getting the weight
started, so we conditioned with the truck tire and 40# of weight. The dogs
are already in good physical shape because of carting/sledding.

We
took Shawnee to his first time pull. He pulled great -- after time was
called. At a stocky 110#, we have high hopes for this son
of Hope...

Rider had a great time trying to climb over the
dog food being used as weights. And Jonathan said to heck with this and
jumped on the cart loaded with dogfood -- i.e., the smorgasbord.
