2008 COWBOY Litter
Litter Notes

9/2/08 - Tori & Amak tied, twice
late October - brought Tori into the house and she went nuts to get back to her boyo Amak.  Who could care less because he had someone else to play with.  Finally got T. settled down so long as she could SEE me.  If I let her get in a crate where she couldn't actually SEE me at my desk or the couch, then she got all hyper again.  We spend a lot of time doing belly rubs on the couch and watching movies late at night -- because she sure isn't SLEEPING at night!!!
11/1/08 Saturday (Day 60) - Tori started being very clingy, very restless, and started digging in her crate.  She will go DOWN the 7 steps on the kitchen porch, but she won't come up them, she has to come UP the 4 steps on the living room porch...  Sure, OK.
11/2/08 Sunday (Day 61) - Tori didn't eat today, did a LOT of deep sleeping.
11/3/08 Monday (Day 62) - Woke me up around 3m throwing up in her crate, just bile, because she hadn't eaten, not kibble, not p-butter sandwiches, not even chicken quarters.  She's VERY close.

BIRTHDAY! 7:48a first puppy delivered!  Done by noonish.

F1 gray & white (faint goggles)
F2 seal & white (black with mask)
F3 gray & white (snippets, nape spot, withers spot - tiny)
M1 gray & white (open-faced)
M2 gray & white (faint goggles, will fade)
M3 gray & white (faint goggles, will fade)

Tori is being a great mother, she's attentive, the pups are dry and warm and she's very careful not to step on them.  She's drinking some and nibbling on food today, but she's got a belly full after delivering her pups.  I'll try to tempt her with something warm and stinky tomorrow, but for tonight, she has to settle for scrambled eggs and regular-fat cottage cheese.  <G>

One, or more, of these babies are sables -- no surprise when Amak's daddy Yogi is a sable.  Will know which one(s) as they mature and the color comes into their faces more.

11/6/08 - lost the tiny gray girl F3 to pneumonia.  RIP little one.
11/11/08 - 1wo and the litter is thriving.  Momma Tori is an attentive first-time mom with plenty of milk and affection to lavish on the babies.  She won't leave them for long, except to go outside and then run in and check on them, but maybe swoop by the couch for a quick snuggle -- but one peep out of the babies and she's right back there.
11/14/08 (10d) - Never seen pups this fat and strong and growing this sturdy.  Huge heads, massive legs, and stout little bodies.  Eyes are opening and got pics today (been down with a virus so the pics are not timely and not artful, but they are there).  These are the last Wayeh pups in 2008 but what a way to go out -- gorgeous pups.
11/17/08 (2w) BIG FAT puppies.  Mom's milk is SO rich.  And they are eating SO much of it <G>  We got the first howl-a-long this morning -- the pups heard the outside dogs howling and sang along with them.  The outside dogs heard the pups and shut up to listen.  Which means the pups stopped singing to listen... then they all started singing together!  Tori is spending more time away from them, not far, still close, but not WITH them.  Pups tasted spaghetti sauce today -- just a taste, and had peanut butter yesterday, creme cheese the day before.  All big hits <G>
11/24/08 (3w) Pics, toenail trims w/ peanut butter, Pyrantal Pomoate, A new scent AND texture each day (New Knowledge of Dog Behavior), Eyes open, ears open, alert to sounds and scents and sights.  They hear howling outside, and dogs outside hear them.  They know me and are eager when mom comes back from a trip to the couch or a trip outside. I suspect 2 of the males are long-coats as they have a huge amount of hair, maybe the others are short coats, hard to tell this young.  Temps between 19-40 degrees.

Will move pups outside if temps allow and start offering soaked kibble mom is eating.  After they are outside, crate pups 2h/day away from mom, but in a group.

12/1/08 (4w) Pics, toenail trims w/ peanut butter, Pyrantal Pomoate, Clicker Litter for sits, downs, spins, stands, shake.  Start table stacking

Moved pups outside, even tho it is cold, it was dry, and the doghouse was filled with cedar.  Checked them every couple of hours the first few nights and it was warmer in the doghouse than my house.  After the first couple of nights, the pups started sleeping outside on the Kuranda bed, sometimes with mom, sometimes without, but always in a pile  When we got rain, and we got a lot of rain, they would be playing tag and fetch and tug when I checked on them, so I'm not too worried and they were under shelter, it was just a damp night.  Personalities coming out alot now - a la Western cowboys and cowgirls...

F1 Bright, outgoing, charismatic, and bold -- she's all petticoats and pistols and don't say a word to her about it!
F2 Soft, cuddly, curious, but cautious -- in a cattle stampede, she'd be in a tree waiting for the excitement to be over
M1 Playful, insistent, affectionate and a charmer -- would rather charm the ladies than play with the other cowboys
M2 Caused the stampede by shooting off his six-shooters and howling at the moon -- wants to go-go-go
M3 Kissy and playful but he climbed the tree right behind F2 just for a chance to kiss the girls
12/8/08 (5w) Pics, toenail trims w/ peanut butter, INTERCEPTOR, Rules of 7, 7 bowls, 7 sleeping places, 7 surfaces to walk on, etc.  Puppy Visits with New Owners can start now
12/15/08 (6w) Pics, toenail trims w/ peanut butter, Pyrantal Pomoate, Fishbacks Leash training, lead dog testing
F1 Under my feet, grabbed a stick as we strolled by, and carried it with her.  The obstacles didn't worry her much, once she had a chance to suss it out.  The other dogs coming to the fence made her sit and ponder.  She didn't approach, wasn't afraid, but watched to see what would happen next.  Trotted out front on the way back up the hill towards home.
F2 Lagged behind, but not too far behind.  Pine cones were insteresting, sticks were odd, but pine needles were really COOL!  Obstacles were a concern, but her solution was to dart over them as fast as she could.  The other dogs at the fence were obviously rustlers in disguise and she sat between my feet and kept looking back up the hill to safety.  Walked with me, underfoot on the way back up the hill.
M1 Oooo, sticks, those are great!  So he carried a stick until he saw the next, better stick, and then he tried to carry two sticks, dropped them both and charged after me when he realized I was too far away for comfort.  Obstacles, what obstacles, he was intent on staying up with me.  Other dogs at the fence?  No way, Jose, they might steal his sticks!  Trotted along happily with me on the way back up the hill, trying to carry 2 sticks at once.
M2 Yee-hah!  Where's the nearest saloon!  M2 was here and over there, and down yonder, and back with me, the only puppy who was really confident enough to wander away.  Obstacles were no biggie, sticks are fun, but PINE CONES are better!  Other dogs were interesting, and he walked halfway towards them until he heard his mother bellow in the kennel up the hill, then he darted back for her, ignoring me behind him.  Not afraid, but mom was calling and she always had a SNACK with her!
M3 This is a great big world, and so long as you let me climb in your lap, I'll be confident enough to go anywhere you want to go.  Sticks are Ok, other dogs are Ok, pine cones, whatever, but the LAP is the place this boy wants to be!
