START
As you exit the church parking lot, go LEFT/WEST on Melody Lane 200 yards
Turn LEFT/SOUTH on Old Dixie Lee Hwy
MILE .25-3.5
At 1/4 mile the road takes a 90 degree RIGHT under the RR tracks (tunnel) then a
90 degree LEFT. Stay on this road.
MILE 3.5
STOP Sign at RR, go straight across. This section has mega POTHOLES.
MILE 4-6
STOP Sign, go RIGHT across RR and Pass Huber Engineered Woods. This
is Cawood Loop. This section is gravel, then paved, slight hills.
When you reach Hwy 27 turn around and come back. Aprox .5 miles back is a
wide place in the road under trees that makes a good resting spot.
MILE 6-12
Reverse route
Alternate Route 1
Old Dixie Lee - Loop
Start at Four Square Church. Follow Old Dixie Lee passed Huber, onto
Cawood Loop. At the Hwy 27 midpoint, instead of reversing route, go LEFT/NORTH on the shoulder. Hwy 27 is an official Bike Path and FACING
traffic is safer than putting your back to it.
Turn LEFT at the entrance to Huber Engineered Woods.
Turn RIGHT/NORTH directly before RR tracks.
Return on Old Dixie Lee.

Alternate Route 2
Old Dixie Lee/Fire Hall
Start at church, go under tracks, go aprox 3 miles (have not
measured). But look for first STOP sign, this is Roddy Road.
Turn RIGHT/EAST towards RR tracks & Hwy 27.
At Hwy 27 go LEFT/NORTH on the shoulder facing traffic
At unmarked road "Clack's Crossing" go LEFT/WEST towards RR
tracks -- there are posts set in the road because this is a closed
crossing.
Before you get to the posts there is a line of trees, go LEFT/SOUTH on the old roadbed -- now
grassed and lovely.
Go .2 miles to Fire Hall
Go RIGHT around Fire Hall -- be careful of the creek and the propane tank.
Go RIGHT/WEST at Roddy Road.
Go across RR tracks.
Go RIGHT/NORTH on Old Dixie Lee back towards start.

Trip Report
This is Team Wayeh's Regular training route. We live on
the route and start running this as soon as the weather drops below 60 degrees. There are two sets of dogs to be wary of. One at the corner
of Roddy Rd/Old Dixie Lee. But only sometimes. And they know to stay
away from dogsled teams with a little reminding. And the other on Cawood
Loop, again, they are familiar with the routine and if you act tough and loud, they will
leave you alone. |
