From the WayehMals egroup for Wayeh puppy buyers, ideas on what makes a good Malamute owner:
Lace (Maestro & Hannah '07) & Dancer (Nikko & Singer '05):
You want a companion not a servant
You want to interact with your dog not boss it around
You want a pet not a status symbol
You are willing to pay attention to your dog at all times
You value creativity and intelligence in your pet

Stella (Yogi & Sunny '08) & Sonny Boy
(Maestro & Sunny '07):
Understands that Malamute exercise does not constitute a walk around the block, but includes long walks, room to run, new things to sniff, varied terrain, and a long, long, nap afterwards.
MUST have a will stronger than a Malamute.
Is mature and generous with his or her time.
Is committed to going the distance.
Has a sense of humor.
Has a sense of the absurd, the ironic, the unbelievable…
Is willing to take antihistamines for life!
Thinks dust bunnies are cute, and Malamute tumbleweeds even cuter.
Loves the old dogs with gray muzzles, slow gaits, cranky dispositions; not just cute puppies, and spry youngsters.
Wants a dog that gives respect when well-trained, but expects it too.
Can get past the cute puppy, in order to train the willfull dog.
Knows that training happens all day ,everyday, in every interaction between you, and that if you forget this one simple rule, the malamute will not, and will train you!
Knows that love is more about respect, loyalty, and commitment, than hugs, kisses, and cuddling.
Knows that hugs, kisses, and cuddling are pearls without price.
If you want a dog that thinks before it acts on a command, not a robot.
If you like a change of scenery in the yard, like new ponds.
If you think howling is music to the ears.
If you like the challenge of working with highly intelligent animals.
If you want to be active outdoors and have a companion that can more than keep up wiht you.
If you want to be amazed every day, then you might be a malamute person.

Bryce & Adak (Maestro & Kayobi '07):
You must always remember you are alpha and never let them believe they are
You must have a sense of humor, they like to hide things
Denver (Brady & Hannah '08):
Doesn't care how many times they have to vacuum to get the dog hair to a mangable level
Doesn't care where that dog hair ends up and doesn't think too hard about how it got there (how do you get dog hair in my shampoo?)
Is willing to search for the right vet and the right trainer (because who wants to go to a vet that calls Sidney an idiot)
Has a unique response ready when their baby gets called a wolf
Is willing to meet every person that comes within ten feet of their dog
Is ready to laugh all the time
Wants a four legged "helper" in the yard (he's better than a tiller)
Won't feel guilty saying no to those big brown eyes to maintain authority.
Wants a marshmallow that will occasionally bounce off the walls for no apparent reason.
Denny (Brady & Storm '07):
Knows how to handle a dog that tries to correct them for correcting their 2 legged kids (Denny tries to protect my kids from mom's fussing)
Doesn't mind spending an hour in a pet store when they only wanted to "run in" and get a bag of dog food because EVERYONE has to pet that huge dog
Can answer not only the "wolf" question but the other dozen questions each and every person wants to ask, without getting frustrated by people's stupidity.
Doesn't mind being in God knows how many pictures because people just have to take a picture of their dog...most times with their cell phones.
Knows that if they don't seat belt their malamute in that they are more than willing to climb up front and help you drive.
Know that they can't go through any type of drive thru without getting something for the dog or they will hear a mountain of grumbles coming from the back seat all the way home.
Knows how to refrain from slapping someone silly for feeding their malamute treats... I haven't slapped anyone but did make one PetSmart cashier cry.
