How I Got Started in Show Business

Misty was the first to teach me what an Alaskan Malamute was all about. She had one litter and we kept her son "Laz" Lazerus Wayeh and daughter "Wayeh" Wayeh Needa Mist, TT, ROM, OB-ROM. Wayeh was the first to teach me what dog shows were as together we made our novice efforts in the Conformation ring . We did not win much, but Wayeh was most forgiving of my many mistakes and it was always an honor to be on the other end of her lead. She was my best friend and we did everything together.
Wayeh's first litter produced daughters who titled in Obedience and Conformation. They went on to produce many titled offspring. Wayeh's and Laz's granddaughter became our first Champion, CH Wayeh's Wayfinder Atali "Finder" and later her brother, CH Wayeh's Kentucky Skywalker "Sky." Wayeh was bred a second time to "Indiana Jones" AKC/SKC CH Kiwaliks Vykon Indiana Jones TT, AKC/StatesKC-CD, ROM. This breeding produced 5 champion litter brothers. CH Wayeh's Cherokee Brave, CGC, TT, TDI, who was the first to finish at 19 months followed soon after by his 4 brothers. BIS AUST CH Vykon's Cheechakos Diomede, ROM "Mister" became a Best in Show winner in Australia. CH J Allen's Yukon Hug-A-Wolf "Yuke" became a Working Group Winner and the Top Southern Area Dog. He was in the top 20 nationally and earned his Championship in 7 weeks. Today Champions Cherokee and Yuke are retired but stay busy overseeing all the activities of Wayeh Kennels and making "woo-woo" comments on everything. Cherokee is especially talented at rearing puppies. Yuke is especially talented at sitting on the deck with me to watch for the hummingbirds and butterflies. Wayeh's Indiana Love Call "Lovey", the only sister of the FAMOUS FIVE, is talented at making us laugh. Another award winner was the daughter of Laz and granddaughter of Wayeh, CH Wayeh's Sassafras Lass "Razzy". She was the Top Southern Area Bitch and ranked #7 in the nation. After Wayeh, Razzy became my best friend and her devotion to me was awesome.
The Wayeh Kennel Malamutes of today are the descendants of these earlier dogs. All our Wayeh dogs are obedience trained from puppy hood and most have earned the certificate Canine Good Citizen (CGC). Our latest champion is IABCA-INT/AKC Wayeh's Artic Wind's Shadow, CGC, TDI, TT "Shadow". Recently in Hodgensville, KY, he became our first Malamute to earn an International Championship Title. Shadow and Cherokee do therapy work visiting nursing homes and adult day-care centers.
Every breeders goal is to produce dogs that are better than their parents. It has been hard for me to say that any dogs are better than the original Wayeh or better than Yuke. Others have said that Razzy was better than Wayeh, her granddam, and now it is being said that Shadow is a better dog than Yuke, his grand sire. Temperament and character have always been important in breeding decisions as illustrated by the many TT's, CGC's and Therapy Dog International (TDIs) certificates earned by Wayeh dogs. So maybe at Wayeh Kennels with a very limited breeding and showing program we have done something to improve not only our own dogs but the breed. The new generation is coming out and the Shadow puppies look very promising. One Shadow puppy "Shawnee", (U-CD, IABCA-BPIS/National Jr CH Wayeh's Shadow of Hope, CGC, TT, TDI, WPD as of 12/01) earned his International Puppy Championship title at 3 and 1/2 months at Hodgenville, KY this year showing under three different judges during three days. Soundness in mind and structure as well as beautiful breed type seem to be coming through in Wayeh puppies.
All litters of Wayeh Malamutes have been produced by dams and sires who were certified clear of Hip Dysplasia by the Orthopedic Foundation of America (OFA) and Chrondodysplasia (ChD) [dwarfism] by the Alaskan Malamute Club of America (AMCA). It has always been our primary goal to breed for healthy puppies who grow up to be a joy to have around and become family members.
