October 1, 2008 (5w) -- Deworm Interceptor.  Pups are aware, awake, curious, and demanding affection.  They follow me around and know I am the source of peanut butter (their fav) and chin rubs.  Even the least demanding of them (F3, M1, M4) are climbing in my lap when I sit down.  They have realized what the big yellow bag is for... Diamond Naturals Large Breed Puppy Lamb & Rice, and will follow the big stainless bowl wherever it may go.  They have followed it inside the dogloo, on top of the Kuranda, outside the kennel and into a soft-sided crate, in a wire crate in the basement, under the couch in the living room, and inside the bed of Spearmint... is where their mother Hannah likes to hide from them.  This week, and things are changing every minute, the pups have the following personality traits -- a la High School:
F1 the cheerleader, that annoyingly happy girl who isn't afraid to act foolish in front of a crowd!
F2 the edge-of-the-crowd girl, interested in what everyone is doing, doesn't quite have the guts to stand in the middle of the crowd with the cheerleader, has a lot to give if someone will ask
F3 the thinker, off by herself, contemplating the universe and how to arrange more peanut butter!  When she figures it out, she climbs in your lap and bats her eyes... which works every time.
M1 is cute, spunky, everyone's best friend, the girls (F1) like to bully him because he lets them, but they also cuddle up with him to nap
M2 the outdoorsman, likes to explore but not by himself,  wants someone to go with him and share things with him, kind of dorky and sweet
M3 the Quarterback, likes to be in a crowd so long as he is the leader of that crowd
M4 he will be the CEO of the world's richest company, and you'll never see his face on the cover of a magazine
M5 Mr. Prom King, everyone's favorite, craves attention and will give it back 10-fold

Maestro wondered into the kennel when I forgot to latch the gate.  Hannah, being a true sweetheart, wouldn't tell him to GO!, but also wouldn't tell, It's OK, stay awhile.  She kept pushing between Maestro and me, as he sniffed all their inquisitive little noses.  'Stro loves puppies, but these are still a little young for playing with adults.

September 26, 2008 -- Added Color Genetics and updated Parents & Pedigree to include Planning a Litter, COI, & COR.
September 24, 2008 (4w) -- New pics!  We have moved outside and are spending all but 5 hours in the warmest part of the afternoon outside. Those warm hours are crated inside in groups of 4 with mom crated between them. We are eating kibble and introducing new flavors and smells this week.

Banana flavored Pyrantal Pomoate - AOK
Peanut Butter - AOK
string cheese - AOK
creme cheese - AOK
peppermint mint - weird, no thanks, mom
catnip - still weird
spearmint - AOK if momma Hannah has rolled in it, otherwise weird

They are developing little personalities and starting to play with each other. Toys are interesting, as is country music -- not so much on the hip hop or clashing cymbals of the classic orchestral music. Lawnmowers are scary, tractors not so much -- not sure what they see as the difference.

3w - outside and start dry kibble
4w - tastes & smells & noises, continues through 9w
5w - full payment for puppies!
6w - Fishback's leash training
7w - Temperament Test & Aptitude test & PICKS
8w - vet visits
9w - go-home (boo-hoo & YEAH!)
September 20, 2008 (3.5w) -- moved outside and the temps cooperated with a mild 70s kind of day, no wind, and balmy.  One of the gray boys climbed into the sheep trough and couldn't get out -- help, help, help.  Hannah watched him curiously and then laid down next to him -- that maternal grabbing with the mouth and saving the puppy gene skipped Miss Hannah.  He's fine, so fine that he climbed right back into the water 5 minutes later.  Dumped the water trough and put in some shallow feed bowls of food.  They ALL liked to climb in there and splash around.  Took some casual pics of their first full day outside... they want to be HOUSE DOGS!  <G>  3 1/2 week pics
September 17, 2008 (3w) -- what chunky, stout, muscular puppies these are.  They are all muscle and lots of energy.  Keeping them confined in their crate complex is getting harder and harder.  I snap-hooked 3 crates together (double-door crates) and put up a barrier between two of them so Hannah can get away from their TEETH.  But with 8 of them, we're going to move them outside to the cedar-filled puppy kennel.  They need room to stretch out and run, room to pee/poop away from where they sleep (they are already using the third crate for this), and fresh air.... which means it's time to start them on mush -- mom's kibble soaked with goat's milk and warm water until it's... well, mush.

3w Pictures are updated and I am starting to look for long-coats.  Both parents carry the gene, and although it's a little early yet (ideally 5w will tell you) I'm still LOOKING to see what I see.  If I'm right about who is a long-coat, then I will cry a little over this because I wanted a show male and I've got my eye on one particular boy... we will see. They have completed ENS and are working on Rules of 7, and Pffafenberger's New Knowledge of Dog Behavior -- smells, textures, tastes, sights, and sounds.  Secret deodorant and all things Olay are a hit.  Not so much the Head & Shoulders, but they are fascinated with sweaty skin and peanut butter.

September 10, 2008 (2w) -- We had a failure to thrive puppy who never grew after birth, and didn't plump up despite our best efforts, Hannah's and mine.  The Post revealed no anatomical reasons, but it is always sad loosing a little one.  RIP M6.

The rest of the litter is thriving.  2w pictures posted and I can't believe how stout and sturdy they all are.  Mom is on Eukanuba Sporting 30/20 to produce rich milk and give her a boost.  This litter will be weaned onto Kirkland's Puppy food available at Costo.

We're in the middle of ENS, we've moved the crate from living room to kitchen, they've all napped on the couch with me, and Hannah is leaving them for a few moments each day, which they don't seem to mind at all.

August 28, 2008 -- OK, I think we're done now.  There were 10, but we lost the smallest girl, who was half the size of her sisters...  So the final tally is 3 seal girls, 3 gray boys, 3 seal boys:

August 27, 2008 -- after a long anticipated delivery, Hannah (with some help from Brady) delivers starting at midnight and finishing at 6a...  then finishing the second time at noon with  wide blaze boy (M4)...  Hannah has been on Eukanuba Sporting 30/20 since we confirmed pregnancy first week of August, to give her the extra calories she needs for a big litter.  Last time she had 10, but 7 is still a lot to ask of the girls, so they get the extra rich food.  8 pups, that is.... uh, 9... <G>
