Boarding @ Camp Wayeh

Contact sleddog@pobox.com 423-365-6039
for availability & reservations.

Since 1990, we have rescued 700 northern breed and other large breed dogs, we have owned, bred, and shown Wayeh Malamutes and Siberians as well, and we have taken in dogs for training and breeding from across the country.  Because of the changing economy and unavoidable work plans, we have also boarded dogs from 1 day to 18 months.  We  have helped people with temporary work assignments in Japan, Kenya, the UK, and Korea.  We have housed dogs for people in the process of moving, or just going on long summer vacations.  Long-term boarders become part of the Wayeh family and when they come back, dragging their owners to the gates and hollering a welcome, we know they loved staying here as much as we loved having them.

We also gladly welcome our own Wayeh puppies for boarding and we will structure playgroups along family lines as much as possible.  We have 4 generations here and moms will remember their properly submissive puppies for a long time.

While at Camp Wayeh, the dogs have daily supervised play groups, time in the large grassy yards every day where they can dig, chew, romp, and chase grasshoppers.  Since the only dogs we take are hardy northern breeds, they also get to play in the snow and sleep under clear skies.  When I need air conditioning, I figure they do as well, and the house kennels are kept at appropriate Northern breed temperatures, which means long-johns and toboggans for me.

Our Fees

We charge $10/day or $200/month for each dog.  We require payment in advance of each month's stay, with long-term boarding first and last month in advance.   This includes what my dogs eat, but does not include medical expenses, flea/tick or heartworm prevention.

Our Kennel Runs

Our kennel runs are 10'x10'x6' or 10'x20'x6' and can be roofed against escape artists as necessary.  They have concrete-block flooring for ease of cleaning and preventing dig-outs.  Each run is shaded by car canopies and commercial greenhouse mesh tarps, has dog houses, and wading pools.  Kennel runs are situated right next to the house for direct supervision.  Southern and eastern exposures are protected by stands of trees, the house to the north, and the play yards to the west.  One to two dogs are housed in each run during the day and at night during Malamute-friendly weather.

For Malamute-UNfriendly weather, we can bring them into the climate-controlled basement into wire crates.  If they want to come inside.  Most look at you like you're nuts if you try to drag them inside during our infrequent snows.  This is MALAMUTE WEATHER!

Play Yards

An old maze garden now grown up with trees.  A 65yo sugar maple for shade.  Long stretches of grass to romp in.  A long hill to run down.  Six-nine foot perimeter fences and airlocks at the main entrance.  An old out-building to play hide-and-seek under.  A companion dog or several dogs to play with.  Toys to fetch.  Grasshoppers and butterflies to chase.  Social time in the play yards is the best part of the day.

Your Dog

In order to protect your dogs and the dogs already here, your dogs must be neutered/spayed, vaccinated for Rabies and boosters, current on flea/tick & heartworm prevention, and non-aggressive to people and other dogs.  Your dog doesn't have to like all other dogs, or even interact with them.  But out-of-control aggression will not be tolerated.   Medium or Large dogs or Northern Dogs are preferred since those are the dogs we know best and are best set up to help.

Veterinarian Care

Emergency and routine vet care is provided by Animal Hospital of Dayton, TN, 423-775-4003.  Routine vet care must be paid in advance.  Emergency vet care is the responsibility of the owners and must be paid promptly with a credit card, Western Union, paypal, or overnight mail.
